What is Animoto?

Animoto is a video presentation tool.  Users can quickly and easily upload photos or videos, choose a template style, music and add text.  Then, just create, watch, and share. Check it out for yourself at www.animoto.com.

Why use Animoto?

  • There is a free version of Animoto, which allows for students to create 30 second video presentations and teachers to create longer ones.
  • Animoto combines visual, audio and text media formats to appeal to more than one learning style.
  • Aligns with the Universal Design for Learning, allowing for multiple means of representation when teacher created, and multiple means of expression when created by students as a performance assessment.
  • Easy and intuitive tool to quickly create engaging , professional quality content for students.

How can it be used in instruction?

  • Hook students into a concept by creating a quick Animoto presentation that connects their experiences to the content.
  • Have students collect images from their lab experiments and explain their procedures and results.
  • Create a portfolio of student art work to display during American Education Week.
  • Document a field trip with photos, then have students create an Animoto presentation to demonstrate what they have learned.
  • Summarize unit learning by creating a quick review of the unit.
  • Create a public service announcement with a collaborative group about an issue facing their community
  • Have students complete a character study from a book or short story.
  • Have students create 30 seconds review videos on a topic or concept which they can share and use to prepare for the MSA or HSA.
  • Introduce yourself to your class and have them create one to introduce themselves.  Here is one teacher example introduction.
  • Use it to document projects in the classroom, like this 3rd Grade Landforms Project.
  • Student can create a digital book report, like this one:
